…Reaffirms Commitment to Prudent Management and Mega Projects
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, remains steadfast in his commitment to infrastructure development, quality healthcare, agriculture, education, and other key sectors of the state economy through the ongoing implementation of his MORE Agenda.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, provided this assurance in a statement on Saturday while addressing a recent media campaign by the spokesperson of the state’s major opposition party.
Dr. Latimore emphasized that Governor Oborevwori is a visionary leader, meticulous planner, and prudent administrator whose primary objective is to build a robust economy through various flagship projects across the state’s three senatorial districts. He added that the ongoing implementation of the MORE Agenda is already generating thousands of jobs and wealth for both skilled and unskilled workers in Delta State.
He reiterated that no amount of name-calling, blackmail, or media propaganda would distract Governor Oborevwori from his mission to advance Delta State. Dr. Latimore clarified that loans and credit facilities obtained by the previous administration were transparently spent on infrastructure development, socio-economic growth, and the well-being of the people.
He also commended the immediate past governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, for his meritorious eight-year service to the state, noting that the state government under Okowa’s leadership published annual financial reports on its official website, ensuring transparency and accessibility for citizens and stakeholders worldwide.
Dr. Latimore disclosed that the current administration, under Governor Oborevwori, has not violated the Nigerian Constitution or acted illegally in repaying and servicing legitimate debts and credit facilities obtained by the previous administration. He highlighted that these loans were used transparently to develop infrastructure and enhance the people’s well-being.
He assured that the Oborevwori administration would continue to acknowledge and build upon the good governance strides of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, CON, stating categorically that state financial resources were never used to fund Okowa’s 2023 vice-presidential bid.
Dr. Latimore urged the opposition party spokesperson to reflect on the ongoing nationwide END-BAD-GOVERNANCE protests, sparked by the federal government’s poor performance under his party’s leadership, and to compare it with Delta State, where Governor Oborevwori has shown a clear aversion to loans and anti-people economic policies, opting instead to support small and medium-scale businesses through financial grants under the MORE Agenda.
“The spokesperson of the major opposition party in Delta State is clearly not informed about the numerous achievements of Governor Oborevwori,” Dr. Latimore remarked. “Constructive criticism based on accurate data and verifiable evidence is necessary to hold any government accountable, Delta State included. However, misinformation, disinformation, fake news, deliberate blackmail, and propaganda amount to politics of bitterness.”
He continued, “The opposition spokesperson’s allegations are evidently rooted in frustration, stemming from Governor Oborevwori’s landmark achievements over the past fourteen months. The media consistently reports on the governor’s actions, including contracts awarded, completed, and commissioned projects. These records are publicly accessible through Google searches and all traditional and social media platforms.”
“Deltans of good conscience are consistently commending the governor for his prudent management of resources and for embarking on several mega projects that are already positively impacting the state’s economy,” Dr. Latimore added.
He noted that since 1999, all Nigerian states, including Delta, have borrowed money from financial institutions and banks to fund major projects. Delta is no exception, and borrowed funds have been judiciously deployed, with visible results across the three senatorial districts.
“Loans or credit facilities obtained by the previous administration were utilized transparently for the benefit of all Deltans,” he said. “This administration is proud of the achievements and economic advancement made under Senator Ifeanyi Okowa’s leadership.”
Dr. Latimore reaffirmed that Governor Oborevwori will continue to repay and service debts legitimately owed by the state while sustaining good governance until Delta State is rated as the leading economy in Nigeria. The MORE Agenda, he concluded, is designed to achieve unprecedented results that will propel Delta beyond 2027.
“The highest debtor state in Nigeria is Lagos, where Mr. President once held sway as a de facto leader, and the opposition spokesperson in Delta is fully aware of this fact. Delta is moving forward,” he said.
“We don’t intend to engage in a back-and-forth with the opposition spokesperson, but it is evident that his allegations are mere propaganda—illogical, baseless, and ill-motivated.
“All available records, both locally and internationally, including those from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Federal Government Debt Management Office, indicate that Delta State is solvent and economically sound.”
Dr. Latimore added, “Our amiable governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is working tirelessly to consistently position Delta State among the fastest-developing states in Nigeria. He remains focused on delivering on his campaign promises to the people.”
