Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has reacted to today’s judicial affirmation of his victory in the 2019 governorship election in the state.

The Supreme Court had earlier today dismissed the appeal by his main opponent, Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared Makinde the validly elected governor.

Makinde in a post on his Twitter handle, @seyimakinde, said he was overwhelmed by the amount goodwill he had received since the news of his victory broke.

He said the judgment had reaffirmed his faith and confidence in the judiciary as the last hope of the oppressed.

He wrote, “I am overwhelmed by the goodwill and congratulatory messages we’ve received as a result of the affirmation of our victory at the polls by the Supreme Court, earlier today. I am delighted that our faith and confidence in the judiciary as the last hope for the oppressed was rewarded.

“We’re deeply thankful to you, the people of Oyo State, for your overwhelming support throughout the judicial process. We remain committed to acting in your best interest, as we continue to deliver on our people-centred policies as outlined in our Road Map for Accelerated Development.”
