Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun communities following a resurgence of violent communal clashes that have claimed lives and destroyed property in the past 24 hours.
The governor made the announcement in a press statement today, emphasising the need to prevent further escalation of the age-long conflict.
Adeleke expressed deep sadness over disturbing footage and security reports detailing the clashes.
To restore calm, he has ordered an immediate joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Immigration Service, NSCDC, NDLEA, Amotekun, and other relevant agencies to enforce the curfew and ensure 24-hour surveillance of the affected areas.
“I deeply sympathise with those who have suffered loss of life and property due to this crisis. Rest assured, perpetrators will face the full weight of the law,” the governor stated.
In a bid to address the root causes of the conflict, Adeleke has summoned an urgent meeting with traditional rulers and community leaders.
Among those invited are HRM Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye, the Olufon of Ifon; HRM Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan, the Olobu of Ilobu; and Oba Yusuf Omoloye Oyagbodun II, the Elerin of Erin Osun. The meeting aims to chart a lasting path to peace among the feuding communities.
Adeleke also issued a stern warning against incitement, stating that individuals or groups found instigating violence or aiding unrest will face legal consequences.
“It is important that we all work together to restore peace and prevent further destruction,” he urged.
