Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has confirmed the killing of three soldiers during a terrorist attack on a military position in Kemanji, Kaiama Local Government Area, in the early hours of Monday.

The governor disclosed the development in a statement, revealing that the attack occurred at about 3am, when suspected terrorists attempted to overrun a military formation in the community.

“At about 3 a.m. today, our gallant soldiers courageously beat back a terrorists’ attack on their position in Kemanji, Kaiama,” Abdulrazaq said. “Many of the terrorists were neutralised by the gallant troops.”

He commended the troops for successfully repelling the attackers and preventing what he described as a planned incursion into the community.

“Our brave men not only repelled the terrorists and prevented them from accessing the community, but they also ensured that no one was kidnapped as the terrorists had intended,” he added.

The governor, however, confirmed that the operation came at a cost, with three soldiers losing their lives in the line of duty.

“In the course of repelling the attacks, we lost three courageous men. My sincere condolences are with the families and loved ones of these great men who have paid the supreme price in the service of our fatherland,” he said.

“We will never forget them and others like them in various theatres across the country.”

Abdulrazaq also assured that the state government would continue to support the families of the fallen soldiers, while reaffirming its commitment to security.

“We will also continue to support their families and loved ones, while no resource will be spared to protect lives and property of the people,” he stated.

The attack highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of North Central Nigeria, where communities have faced intermittent threats from armed groups.

In recent months, security agencies have intensified operations across forested and border areas, including parts of Kwara State, to curb incursions by suspected terrorist elements.

Authorities have repeatedly urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely intelligence, as efforts continue to stabilise affected communities and prevent further attacks.
