Google has selected four Nigerian startups for the 10th cohort of its Google for Startups Accelerator Africa programme, reinforcing the country’s growing influence in the continent’s technology ecosystem.

The selected startups — Bani, MasteryHive AI, Regxta and Termii — emerged from a highly competitive pool of nearly 2,600 applicants across Africa, with only 15 companies chosen for the cohort.

The accelerator programme, which runs as a 12-week hybrid initiative combining virtual and in-person sessions, is designed to support growth-stage startups using artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to solve critical challenges.

According to details released by Google, the selected Nigerian startups are applying technology to address key sectors including fintech, compliance, and cross-border trade.

Bani focuses on payments infrastructure for African businesses operating globally, while MasteryHive AI provides solutions for transaction reconciliation, fraud detection and anti-money laundering processes.

The programme offers participants access to technical mentorship, industry experts, and Google’s engineering resources, aimed at helping startups scale their products and improve operational capacity.

Since its launch in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa has supported more than 180 startups across 17 African countries, with participating companies collectively raising over $350 million in funding and creating thousands of jobs.

Nigeria has consistently featured strongly in previous cohorts, reflecting the country’s position as one of Africa’s leading technology hubs.

Last year, six Nigerian startups were selected for the programme, further underlining the depth of local innovation.

Industry observers say the latest selection highlights the increasing role of artificial intelligence in shaping Africa’s startup landscape, as founders build solutions tailored to regional and global markets.
