The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Washington Oluwagbenga, son of its member and Freedom Online publisher, Mr. Gabriel Akinadewo.
The condolence message was conveyed in a letter jointly signed by GOCOP President, Mr. Danlami Nmodu, mni, General Secretary, Sufuyan Ojeifo, and Kemi Yesufu, the Publicity Secretary.
Describing the passing of the young graduate as “saddening and tragic,” the GOCOP leadership noted that the loss represents a major blow to the Akinadewo family, friends, the online publishing community, and the nation.
Washington, who studied Information Technology at Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, was scheduled to commence his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in January 2026, a milestone the Guild said symbolised his commitment to scholarship, productivity, and service to Nigeria.
“Washington’s life, though cut short, was a testament to his potential and promise,” the statement read. “In this dark hour, we find solace in the memories of his life, his accomplishments, and the legacy he leaves behind. May these memories bring comfort and strength, and may the Almighty God grant you, your wife, and loved ones the fortitude to navigate this difficult time.”
GOCOP prayed for the repose of Washington’s soul and asked God to grant divine protection to his parents and all family members as they mourn.
