Senator Gbenga Daniel has directed his supporters to boycott Monday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary in Ogun East over alleged planned attacks targeting members of his political camp.

The former Ogun State governor said intelligence available to his camp indicated that some of his loyalists could face orchestrated violence during the exercise, prompting the decision to withdraw from participation.

The development marks a fresh escalation in the growing crisis within the Ogun State chapter of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The dispute follows weeks of tension over attempts to adopt a consensus candidate for the Ogun East senatorial ticket.

Daniel and his supporters have repeatedly questioned the credibility and transparency of the process.

Political tensions intensified after the senator was reportedly denied entry into an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where party leaders later endorsed Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as consensus candidate for the Ogun East Senate seat.

Daniel’s loyalists subsequently rejected the endorsement, alleging that the process was aimed at sidelining the senator and weakening his political structure within the party.

The senator had earlier challenged Abiodun to a live televised debate over the Ogun East contest, insisting that the senatorial ticket should emerge through a transparent and competitive process rather than political imposition.

Observers say the boycott directive could deepen existing divisions within the Ogun APC and further complicate reconciliation efforts within the party.

Neither the Ogun APC leadership nor the Abiodun camp had officially responded to the latest allegations at the time of filing this report.
