Gatecrasher from Hell: Meet the Strange Woman Held Over Robbery at Lagos Party

The Party Is Over: Sarah Held Inside a Police Van

Wedding guests in Lagos yesterday burst the bubble for a woman who allegedly masqueraded as one of them, just to steal money and handsets.
Gorgeously garbed in a well-tailored royal-blue skirt and blouse lace, 20-year-old Sarah Ifeoluwa Adekunle blended well at the party and would have ended well with her mission.
But, she seemed to have pushed her luck a little too far, after she appeared on the dance floor with a big polythene bag, posing as a member of one of the families. She dutifully assisted the couple to gather the money they were being sprayed at La-Occasion Event Centre, on Charity Road, Oko Oba, Agege, on the outskirts of Lagos.
One of the guests, Mr. Shina Adeyanju, told Newsmakers: “As she was gathering the money for the bride and groom, she started calling more and more people to the dance floor. She effectively took charge and went after friends and family members to collect the money they had also assisted in gathering inside smaller bags.
“When the beat stopped, she held on to the bags and was leaving the hall; then one of the bride’s sisters went after her. She asked her who she was. And she shockingly identified herself as a sister to the bride. That was when the alarm was raised.
“And when other family members gathered round, nobody knew her. And some of the bags with her were gone. Then she created a bigger spectacle when she called her fleeing partner on phone shouting: ‘Won ti mu mi o!’ (They have caught me).

Sarah Making Frantic Calls to the Suspected Partner after the Arrest

“As moves were being made to deal with her, a Deputy Commissioner of Police at the party quickly called in some officers and she was taken to the Oko-Oba Police Station.”
Officers at the station later got the suspect’s true identity on her National ID Card on which she was described as a student living at 17, Ige Street, Alimosho.
“She told us that was the second time she would be committing such a crime,” an officer told Newsmakers.
He said that part of the money and two iPhone 7 handsets stolen at the party were recovered from the suspect.
They also found that she had already been declared wanted on an online news site after an earlier incident.

Newsmakers learnt that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), at Oko-Oba, SP Bukoye Oye, was preparing to charge the suspect to court early today.
