The Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna) will on Saturday, February 1, 2026, graduate over 5,000 students across various academic programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session, with no fewer than 111 graduands earning First Class honours.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta, disclosed this on Monday during a pre-convocation press briefing held at the Gidan Kwano Main Campus in Minna.
According to him, a total of 4,438 graduands will be awarded first degrees at the ceremony. In addition, 73 candidates will receive Postgraduate Diplomas, 633 will be conferred with Master’s degrees, while 153 scholars will earn Doctorate (PhD) degrees.
Professor Kuta described the outgoing academic year as remarkable for the university, citing achievements that have further strengthened FUT Minna’s standing within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
He revealed that in the 2026 Times Higher Education Rankings, FUT Minna was ranked as the 7th best university in Nigeria and emerged as the highest-ranked specialised university in the country.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the institution’s researchers for securing the highest number of grants under the TETFund National Research Fund (NRF) in the 2024 grant cycle.
He further disclosed that the university received a ₦1 billion TETFund Agricultural Commercial Farm grant, making it one of only 10 beneficiary universities nationwide.
FUT Minna also attracted two major global research grants in 2025, a $3 million grant for its ICT Department and a £15,000 Open Access Books grant from the United Kingdom.
In a major academic expansion, Professor Kuta announced the successful establishment of the College of Medical Sciences and Health Technology, following full approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC). He noted that pioneer students of the new college have already commenced academic activities in the 2025/2026 session.
Reaffirming the university’s vision, the Vice-Chancellor said FUT Minna would remain committed to academic excellence, innovation, integrity and community service, adding that the institution would continue to produce graduates who are solution providers, innovators and job creators.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that the 2026 convocation ceremony will be preceded by a week-long programme of spiritual, intellectual and social activities, including a convocation lecture, exhibitions, project commissioning and a recreational football final scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026.
