Funke Akindele, Husband Risk One Month Jail for Violating COVID-19 Lockdown Order

Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello, risk one month jail term for contravening the COVID-19 lockdown order in Lagos State.

The actress was arrested today by the police after allegedly hosting a house party yesterday to celebrate her husband’s 43rd birthday.

Police have also issued a notice of arrest for her husband and some of the guests at the party, giving them 24 hours to turn themselves in.

NewsmakersNG reports that the Lagos Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020 prescribes one month jail term or N100,000 fine upon conviction.

The actress and her fellow partygoers risk being made an example of the new law if arraingned and found guilty of the allegations against them.

Also, following widespread criticisms of the actress’ action, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disowned her as its brand ambassador.

The centre had also reportedly removed a video advert which featured the actress sensitising Nigerians on social distancing and hand hygiene from its website.

Similarly, the company which sponsored the advert, Dettol Nigeria, has dissociatiated itself from the alleged violation committed by the actress.
