Adeyinka Olaiya, Brazil/

Jair Bolsonaro, a candidate in the upcoming presidential election in Brazil has been stabbed during the national campaign in the country’s city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais.

Bolsonario, who is leading the opinion polls of the intentions of votes with over 40 percent, since the imprisoned ex-president Lulas candidacy was nullified by the Supreme Court of Brazil a few days ago, was stabbed in the stomach as he was being cheered by a multitude of about 50, 000 supporters and activists during a campaign tour.

The ex-soldier, who is a member of the legislative house, writhed in pains as the knife went through his stomach into the inner part of his chest affecting an area of the kidney, NewsmakersNG’s correspondent in Brazil reports.

In the report supported with pictures and videos, the NewsmakersNG’s correspondent says Bolsonario received first aid medical attention at the scene of the incident, but there are fears over his survival as he was being rushed to the hospital for a proper medical attention.

The Brazilian police force has identified the suspected attacker through cameras and an immediate arrest has been made. He is described as Adelio Bispo de Oliveira, a 40-year-old resident of a nearby city who declares total life support for the candidacy of the imprisoned ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

NewsmakersNG learnt from friends of Adelio that he had stated his intentions on social media, on several occasions, that he would eliminate the opponents of the ex-president Lula if the Supreme Court continues to keep the leftist in jail.

According to the Brazilian criminal penal code, the criminal could spend up to 30 years in prison if found guilty of the crime.

Bolsonario, who became polemic with many of his public declarations has gathered hostility from some people who see him as a threat if he is eventually elected as the next president of the country come October.

Though strict and outspoken, Bolsonario responds to various actions in the Supreme Court for Feminism, racism, abuse of authority and lots more, but he became notorious after inciting the possibility of a military take over that would end the political shambles the country has found itself since these past years.

He is at the moment in the intensive care at the Robert Einstein hospital undergoing an urgent surgery to stop the bleeding.

Bolsonaro’s son, Flavio, says on his verified Twitter account: “Sadly, it was more serious than we had hoped for.”
