From Schoolgirls to Old Girls: AGGS Class of 2026 Steps into Global Sisterhood

The Class of 2026 of Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School (Senior), AGGS, has bowed out in grand style, with graduating students formally inducted into the Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School Old Girls Association (AGGSOGA), opening a new chapter in their journey from students to members of the school’s global alumni family.

The colourful valedictory service and induction ceremony, held at the AGGS Hall, Onikolobo, Abeokuta, featured goodwill messages, awards and cash gifts to outstanding students, as well as cultural displays celebrating the school’s heritage.

Addressing the graduands, the Principal, Mrs Mosunmola Ozoje, urged them to carry the values of diligence, humility, integrity and excellence into the next phase of their lives.

“As you step forward, let diligence, humility, and integrity guide you. Avoid shortcuts. Let excellence mark your work and kindness shape your relationships,” she said.

Ozoje reminded the students that challenges and setbacks were inevitable but should serve as opportunities for growth rather than reasons to abandon their aspirations.

“There will be setbacks, but do not be discouraged. Use every challenge to grow. Keep learning, stay adaptable, and pursue your dreams with courage,” she added.

The principal also paid tribute to parents and guardians for their sacrifices, prayers and support, while commending teachers and other members of staff for nurturing the students academically and morally.

“You have taught, mentored, and shaped these lives. We appreciate you,” she told the teachers.

With the graduates formally inducted into AGGSOGA, Ozoje charged them to become worthy ambassadors of their alma mater and remain connected to the institution that helped shape their formative years.

“Graduates, uphold the name of this school with dignity wherever you find yourselves. With today’s induction, you officially join our alumni family. Stay connected, support future students, and let the values of this school guide you,” she said.

AGGSOGA Welcomes Class of 2026
Welcoming the new graduates into the global old girls’ family, AGGSOGA Global President, Engr. Olusolape Ajibola, said their years at AGGS had equipped them with the foundation to confront a world filled with opportunities and challenges.

Ajibola, who was represented at the ceremony by AGGSOGA Global Welfare Officer, Kemi Kalejaye, urged the graduates to hold firmly to the school’s enduring tradition of excellence, integrity, discipline and female empowerment.

In her Yearbook Address, titled “Embracing the Future, Anchored in AGGSOGA Heritage,” Ajibola described the graduation as a defining transition in the lives of the students.

“Today, you stand at the threshold of a significant transition. The hallways of AGGS, Abeokuta, which have echoed with your laughter, academic triumphs, and dreams over the years, are now ushering you into the world,” she said.

She praised the Class of 2026 for navigating rigorous academic schedules, developing character and building bonds of sisterhood that could endure long after graduation.

“As you step out, remember that the uniform you lay down is not just fabric. It is a symbol of a rich legacy of excellence, integrity, and female empowerment that has defined our noble alma mater for generations,” Ajibola said.

The Global President challenged the young women to approach the future with confidence and reject limitations based on gender.

“Always remember: you are not second to anyone, not even to your male counterparts. You are first human, then ladies, and ultimately equal to any challenge,” she said.

She reminded the graduates that leaving the school did not mean severing their ties with AGGS, saying they would carry its spirit and motto, “With God All Things Are Possible,” wherever life takes them.

“You are not leaving AGGS behind. You are taking its spirit with you,” she said.

Ajibola also assured the Class of 2026 that membership of AGGSOGA gives them access to a global sisterhood committed to supporting and mentoring successive generations of AGGS women.

“Step out boldly, conquer new frontiers, and never forget that you have a powerful global network of ‘old girls’ standing right behind you, ready to support, mentor, and welcome you home.

“Congratulations, our newest sisters! The world is waiting for your light to shine forth,” she added.

Excellence Rewarded with Cash Prizes
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of cash prizes by AGGSOGA to students who distinguished themselves in English Language and Mathematics.

In English Language, Sodeke Ayomide emerged first and received ₦25,000, while Tella Jesutofunmi placed second with ₦20,000 and Dada Boluwatife came third, receiving ₦15,000.

Sodeke Ayomide also topped Mathematics, earning another ₦25,000. Adebayo Imoleayo placed second and received ₦20,000, while Tella Jesutofunmi finished third, earning ₦15,000.

Outstanding graduating students in English Language and Mathematics at the AGGS private school were also rewarded with cash gifts from AGGSOGA.

Other representatives of the association at the ceremony included Grace Majoyegbe, Assistant Global General Secretary, and Joy Oji, Global Treasurer, among others.

The ceremony ended on a celebratory note as the Class of 2026 closed one chapter of its AGGS journey and entered another; this time as members of a global sisterhood bound by the school’s heritage, values and enduring commitment to excellence.
