Nigeria’s telecoms landscape is set for a shake-up as 9mobile has officially begun its transition to a new corporate and consumer identity, T2, in a sweeping rebrand designed to cement its position as a leader in innovation, customer experience, and digital lifestyle solutions.

The announcement marks a major milestone in the company’s four-phase recovery roadmap — Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth — initiated after Lighthouse Telecoms, led by investor Thomas Etuh, acquired 9mobile in 2023.

Since the takeover, the telecoms operator has executed far-reaching reforms, including the appointment of a fresh leadership team and a landmark infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria, which has expanded its network reach and boosted resilience nationwide.

Now in its “Transformation” phase, T2 is setting out to redefine connectivity for Nigeria’s increasingly mobile-first population.

“This is not just a logo change — it’s a total evolution of who we are, why we exist, and how we deliver value,” said Obafemi Banigbe, Chief Executive Officer. “T2 represents our renewed commitment to innovation, resilience, and a deeper focus on customer experience.”

Chairman Thomas Etuh described the rebrand as a rebirth after years of challenges, including multiple litigations. “The journey has been exhausting, but today marks a new beginning. Together with our customers, we are reclaiming all lost grounds,” he said, thanking the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and loyal subscribers for their support.

The launch drew praise from the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, who urged T2 to let the rebrand be “more than a change of colours or a new logo,” and from Lagos State Government representative Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, who welcomed T2’s alignment with the state’s digital economy vision.

T2’s market rollout will be phased to ensure continuity for existing customers, focusing on four strategic pillars: Speed, Smart Living, Digital Lifestyle, and Trust.

As the Nigerian telecoms sector navigates a new era of transformation, T2 says it is not just ready to compete, it is ready to lead.
