Friends Launch Fundraiser to Pay N50M Ransom Demanded by Abductors of Ex-UI Deputy VC

Friends and colleagues of Professor Adigun Agbaje, Ex-UI Deputy Vice Chancellor, who was kidnapped on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway yesterday have lunched a fund raising to pay the N50 million ransom demanded by his abductors.

A message shared on a WhatsApp group by one of those behind the fund raising reads, “Please the fund raising to support the effort to procure the release of Prof Agbaje has commenced. All contributions should be paid to First Bank account no 2004429197. Prof. E. Remi Aiyede Ag HoD Political Science UI. Thank you.”

NewsmakersNG reports that Agbaje, who is currently on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), was on his way to Ibadan at about 6pm when kidnappers blocked his way very close to the Sat Guru Maharaji Garden.

The kidnappers also attacked a police checkpoint close to the scene of the incident, killing one policeman and injuring another, before making away with their captive.

The abductors later contacted the Agbaje family to demand a N50 million ransom.
