The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has disclosed what a person must do when arrested during a police raid in order to secure an unconditionally release from custody.

Adejobi disclosed this in a series of tweets via his personal handle this morning.

He faulted attempts by a section of the public to criminalise raid, pointing out that it is one of the lawful means through which police are empowered to fight crime and criminality.

He said police are however expected to conduct raids in a professional manner and without the intent to extort the public.

According to Adejobi, the only requirement when arrested during a raid is to provide a valid means of identification either at the point of arrest or call a reputable individual who can identify and also vouch for one’s character at the police station.

He reiterated the fact that anyone who has fulfilled this requirement is bound to be released unconditionally.

He noted that it is criminal for a police officer to demand money under whatever guise from anyone to secure their release, adding that people who find themselves in such a situation should contact the Police Public Relations Officer in the affected state.

“Let me state clearly that raid is a legitimate strategy emplaced by the police and other security agencies to curb crimes and criminality. However it must be done professionally and deviod of extortion. We condemn raid geared towards raising fund or money.

“Whenever one is raided all he needs do is to tender his ID, if any, or call a reputable someone who can identify him and vouch for him. Once you have been duly identified, you are to be released unconditionally. So the issue of paying for bail again should not arise because it is tantamount to double jeopardy in law.

“So report to your command PPROs or (on) our regular platforms if you experience this. We always embark on raids of black spot or criminal dens; its not negotiable. But make sure you have your ID with (you) whenver you are out. Thanks,” Adejobi tweeted.
