In a seamless transition that put an end to earlier speculation, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Benjamin Hundeyin as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO).
At a brief handover ceremony held today at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the outgoing FPRO, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, officially passed on the baton to Hundeyin. Adejobi, who announced the appointment in a statement, described his successor as a seasoned communicator with rich academic and professional credentials, well-suited to sustain and enhance the Nigeria Police Force’s public relations efforts.
Hundeyin, an alumnus of Lagos State University where he earned a BA in English, also holds a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan. His professional development includes a Certificate in Civil-Military Coordination from the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre, Jaji. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM).
With a career spanning strategic roles in communication and administration within the Force, Hundeyin has served as PPRO at Zone 2 Command Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos, and was part of Nigeria’s contingent to the UN Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan, in 2020. Until his new elevation, he held sway as the image maker of the Lagos State Police Command, where he was widely recognized for his proactive, engaging, and transparent style of communication.
Commending Adejobi’s tenure, the Inspector-General urged Hundeyin to deploy his extensive experience towards deepening trust between the Police and the public. “You must sustain positive engagement with Nigerians and continue building a Police Force that the people can trust,” Egbetokun told Hundeyin.
