The sudden death of the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, on Wednesday, has been described as a colossal loss to members of his immediate family and the pen profession.
A former Vice President of NUJ Zone B, Prince Dele Atunbi. said in a statement, in Abuja, that the news of Haruna’s death was “like an eclipse that darkens the day”.
The union leader described the deceased as a team player who placed much premium on the promotion of journalism.
Atunbi said late Haruna was a comrade who did everything possible to advance the cause of journalism and also enhance the welfare of practitioners.
He said late Haruna would be greatly missed by those who served with him in the National Executive Council of the NUJ.
He also commiserated with the immediate past president of the union, Malam Garba Mohammed, the council and the NUJ as a whole on the loss.
He prayed Allah to grant members of the deceased’s immediate family and the NUJ Kano State Council the fortitude to bear the loss.
