Former CBN Deputy Governor Tunde Lemo to Chair Penpushing Media’s 8th Anniversary Lecture

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Tunde Lemo, OFR, has accepted to serve as chairman of the 8th Penpushing Media Annual Anniversary Lecture, scheduled for July 23, 2026, at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta.

Chairperson of the anniversary lecture, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, disclosed this while speaking with journalists, confirming that Lemo has also assured the organisers of his physical presence at the event.

According to her, the former CBN deputy governor, who is a respected member of the Penpushing Media platform, will preside over the ceremony and deliver the chairman’s remarks.

Responding to the invitation, Lemo commended the editorial board and planning committee of Penpushing Media, publishers of Penpushing Online Newspaper and Penpushing Television, for their foresight and sustained contribution to media development in Nigeria.

A distinguished banker and financial expert, Lemo graduated with First Class Honours in Accounting from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1984. He began his professional career with Arthur Andersen & Co. in 1985 and later served as Managing Director of Wema Bank Plc between 2000 and 2003.

He became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in 1997.

In 2003, Lemo was appointed Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, where he served until 2014, overseeing operations and financial system surveillance.

During his decade-long tenure at the apex bank, he played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s banking sector reforms, including the landmark consolidation that raised banks’ minimum capital base from ₦2 billion to ₦25 billion, leading to the emergence of stronger Nigerian banks with regional and global footprints.

He also spearheaded the modernisation of Nigeria’s payments system, accelerated the adoption of electronic banking, championed the Microfinance Policy and Supervisory Framework, and contributed to the restructuring of the Abuja Securities and Commodities Exchange and the Nigeria Export-Import Bank (NEXIM).

Lemo served as Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) in 2018 and was appointed Chairman of the Abuja Securities and Commodity Exchange Plc on January 2, 2004. He has also served as a Non-Executive Director of the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) since May 16, 2007.
He is a former Chairman of the Boards of Titan Trust Bank and Flutterwave, and continues to serve on the boards of several reputable organisations, contributing his extensive experience in finance, governance and corporate leadership.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s banking industry, the Federal Government conferred on him the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2011.

Beyond his accomplishments in banking, Lemo is an ordained Reverend in the Foursquare Gospel Church, having been ordained in 2008. He is a pioneer church planter, founder of the Success Academy for Financial Literacy, and is married to Pastor Yemi Lemo.
