The Ogun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into two male suspects captured by operatives of the Nigeria Forest Security Service during a security operation in the Atiba area of Ijebu-Ode.
The suspects were intercepted on Thursday, June 4, 2026, by personnel of the forest security outfit and subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
Police authorities said preliminary inquiries are already underway to establish the identities of the suspects and unravel the circumstances surrounding their activities in the area at the time of their arrest.
Confirming the development in a statement issued today, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, assured residents that the situation remained under control and posed no threat to public safety.
According to the Command, the suspects will be subjected to a thorough and professional investigation in line with extant laws, while any further action will be determined by the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to assure residents that the situation is under control and that there is no cause for alarm,” the statement said.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining security across the state and urged residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with credible and timely information capable of aiding crime prevention and detection.
Police authorities also encouraged members of the public to make use of the Command’s emergency communication channels whenever the need arises.
The investigation is expected to shed more light on the identities of the suspects and the purpose of their presence in the area.
