Fire Guts Access Bank’s ATM Gallery in Lagos

Matilda Omonaiye/

Six Automated Teller Machines (ATM) owned by Access Bank were destroyed today by a mystery fire at their site in Ikotun, Lagos.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the fire started at about 3:30pm, and quickly consumed six ATM machines at the gallery, in the Ikotun branch of the bank.
There were suspicions that the inferno was caused by heat, which emanated from the battery powering the machines.
Sources told NewsmakersNG that it took efforts from officials of the Lagos State Fire Service to contain the outbreak.
Spokesman for the bank, Mr. Abdul Imoyo, confirmed the incident, adding that arrangements were being made for a forklift to pull down the gallery.
He said, “The fire did not raze the bank, it was the ATM machines that got burnt. We learnt that the fire was caused by electric issues.”
