Why did the chicken cross the road? Because an Austrian truck overturned spilling 7,000 of them out on a busy road.
Emergency workers scrambled to an unusual operation when an articulated truck lost control on an expressway in Asten near Linz, in the north of the country, MailOnline has reported.
The result was thousands of hens escaping from their cages and wreaking havoc across the three-lane highway.
Police told Emirates 24/7: “Boxes containing dead and injured animals were strewn over a 160-metre stretch of road, while thousands of chickens ran onto the motorway on both sides.”
The incident caused bedlam on the busy road, which is a popular commuter route into Vienna.
Police had to close one side of the road, but traffic jams stretched back on both sides as drivers slowed down to get a glimpse of the chaos.
