Fourteen days after a face-off between the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, the recommendation for promotion of 6455 officers has finally been approved.
The list had earlier been suspended following alleged irregularities.
The beneficiaries included the Ondo State commissioner of police, Hilda Ibifuro–Harrison, promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and two deputy commissioners, Ajani Babatunde and Olukola Taira Shina, promoted to the rank of commissioners of police.
NewsMakers learnt that 47 superintendents of police were elevated to chief superintendents of police and 498 deputy superintendents of police promoted to the next rank of superintendents of police.
PSC’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, made the disclosure in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday.
About 5,907 Inspectors were also promoted to the rank of assistant superintendents of police, ASP11.
The spokesman added that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of operations in Lagos, Mr Edgal Imohimi and DCP Aji Janga, appeared on the list as acting commissioners of police.
He said that promotions and other decisions of the commission would be conveyed to the Inspector-General of Police for implementation.
Ani also said that the commission had returned recommendations pertaining to special promotions to the Inspector-General of Police.
