The curtain has fallen on a remarkable 93-year journey of service, resilience and devotion to family, as Pa Philips Adebisi Adegelu, patriarch of the Adegelu/Shafa family, was laid to rest in Ifo, Ogun State.
Adegelu, who died peacefully at his Ifo residence on Saturday, August 22, 2026, was given a final farewell on Thursday amid an outpouring of tributes from children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, church members, friends and other well-wishers.
Rather than an occasion defined solely by grief, the funeral became a celebration of a nonagenarian whose family said his more than nine decades on earth were distinguished by perseverance, commitment to education and an abiding dedication to those around him.
A native of Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State, Adegelu was remembered particularly for his passion for education and the values of hard work and discipline he instilled in generations of his family.
In accordance with his wishes, the family moved swiftly with the funeral arrangements following his death.
The rites began on Wednesday, August 26, with a Service of Songs and wake conducted by the Gospel Faith Mission International, GOFAMINT, New Ifo District, Region 21, at the Adegelu family compound in Ifo.
The ceremonies culminated on Thursday, August 27, with a funeral service conducted by the church, drawing together generations of the family to honour a patriarch whose influence, they said, would endure long after his passing.
One of his daughters, Deaconess Olukemi Oso, who read his biography during the service, recalled a father whose life revolved around hard work, education and responsibility to family. She described Adegelu’s 93-year journey as a testament to perseverance and diligence, saying the values he championed had become an enduring inheritance for his descendants.
For members of the Adegelu/Shafa family, his death closes an important chapter but does not end the story he began.
His legacy, they said, lives in the children he raised, the generations he helped nurture and the principles of education, industry and family unity that defined his life.
Adegelu is survived by wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
