Oshokoya and the family on his daughter's graduation day

Grunting over the site of a Pigs Pen in a Lagos community has cost a man his life.

The victim, Wasiu Idowu Osholaja, was one of those who raised their voices, when the stench from the pen at Radio Community in Itamada area of Ikorodu had become unbearable.

But the owner, one Segun Irein, allegedly chose to fight dirty rather than relocate the pen.

Newsmakers learnt that Irein eventually picked a fight with Osholaja and inflicted injuries that led to the man’s death.

Osholaja’s widow, Modupe, narrated how her hubby died hours after a brawl with Irein.

Her complaint is contained in a petition addressed to the Inspector-General of Police demanding justice over the mysterious death of her husband.

According to Mrs Osholaja, Irein stabbed her husband to death with an object laced with charms, because the husband joined other residents of Radio Community to demand for the relocation of the pigs’ pen, because the stench constituted health hazards to other residents.

She said, “Segun had turned deaf ears to all the entreaties and had gone along with his business daring anyone to come near the pen at its own detriment. Segun had alleged that my late husband had been at the vanguard of the campaign by the community that is prevailing on him to relocate the pigs pen. He had nursed grudges against my husband and family since. He openly threatened to settle scores with him. The bottled-up animosity spewed over when Wasiu, an Accountant /Auditor with Ogun State Revenue Department on the 30th of January 2017 was attacked by Segun and his wife, as he was on his way to drop off our children at school.

“As the information reached me, I rushed out to the scene and found my husband lying in the pool of his blood and the lacerations over his body showed sign of attack by strong objects. Bewildered neighbours helped me to rush him to the hospital for medical attention. He, however, gave up the ghost few hours later.”

Mr and Mrs Irein

Mrs Osholaja is pleading with the authorities to properly investigate the murder and its mysterious nature.

Suspecting that some charms must have been used by Irein, Mrs Osholaja said that her fair-complexioned husband suddenly turned dark skinned few minutes before his death.

Newsmakers learnt that Mr and Mrs Irein were arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Police Station by members of the community, and they were taken to the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCIID) Panti, Lagos.

Oshokoya’s lifeless body

When our correspondent visited the community, residents described the deceased father of four as a quiet and easy going person who had contributed immensely to the development of the community.
