Akinrinmola in Police Net

A man has been held by the police in Ogun State after he allegedly shot his rival dead with a Dane gun.

The suspect, 43-year-old Adebisi Akinrinmola, said his rival was the first to attack with a machete.

According to Ogun State police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, Akinrinmola said that the slain rival, Ademola Asimiyu (36) had been threatening him for snatching a woman from him.

Then, the rivals had a confrontation at about 3pm yesterday, when Asimiyu met the suspect with his lover on their way from the farm at Ajebo Village, in Ijebu-Igbo.

The suspect told the police that it was the deceased that brought out a cutlass and attempted to attack him, so he went for his Dane gun and shot him to death.

The police at Ijebu-Igbo Divisional Headquarters were alerted after the killing yesterday.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) SP Agene James later led detectives to the scene and the suspect was arrested. The police took the murder weapon and deposited Asimiyu’s body at the mortuary for autopsy.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

He warned residents of the state about the consequences of jungle justice, stressing that the law will deal decisively with anyone caught taking laws into his own hand. He described the incident as a barbaric one which is not acceptable in any sane society.
