The Federal Government has commenced investigation into alleged extra-judicial killing of a Nigerian, Bamiyo Ashade, by policemen in Kiambu, Central Kenya, on Monday.
Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on the Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri, explained in a tweet that the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya has taken up the matter.
Dabiri said the High Commissioner had met with the family of deceased and would be meeting with officials of the Kenyan government tomorrow as part of efforts to unearth the circumstances surrounding the incident.
She also said the deceased was not a student as stated in earlier reports.
Dabiri’s tweet reads: “Update on Nigerian killed in Kenya. NHC taken up the mattter .Inv will be thorough Our HC has met with his family and meeting Kenya authorities again tomorrow.Hever, he is not a student.Occupation unknown but Nig has demanded thorough investigation.”
The deceased reportedly died after he was allegedly brutalised, on Sunday at his house in Four Ways Estate, Kiambu County.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the policemen had tried to extort him despite finding out he had valid papers. He however stood his ground, insisting that he had committed no crime.
The police then resorted to assaulting him until he started gasping for breath.
Realising that he was nearing his death, the policemen reportedly rushed him to a hospital where he died the following.
