The federal government has denied putting names of identified #EndSARS protesters on a no-fly list.
An online news outlet had reported that a no-fly list of “hundreds of Nigerians” the government suspects of energising the #EndSARS protest is being compiled.
The report was published after security officials reportedly stopped Modupe Odele, a member of the Feminist Coalition, which raised funds for the #EndSARS protests, from travelling out of the country.
Odele, a lawyer, also offered free legal aid to persons arrested during the demonstrations.
According to her, she was detained and her passport seized at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos by security officials who did not state the reasons for their action.
She tweeted earlier today, “Hello everyone. Thank you so much. I’m fine and I’m safe. We haven’t confirmed yet why I was stopped on Sunday or by whom. But I’ve been invited back in with my lawyers today. I’ll update when I have more information but please don’t spread false news. That is dangerous.”
But in a tweet today, the ministry of interior described the report of a no-fly list as “fake news”.
“The Ministry of Interior did not, has not and will not generate any no-fly list. Ignore fake news please!” the ministry tweeted.
A no-fly list is a register of people banned from boarding commercial aircraft for travel within, into, or out of a country.
