The Federal Government has declared tomorrow a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on yesterday in London.

The announcement was made in a statement issued today in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.

She said the declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

According to Tunji-Ojo, the holiday follows the seven-day national mourning period declared by President Bola Tinubu to pay tribute to Buhari’s life and legacy.

He said the gesture was to honour Buhari’s service, his role in Nigeria’s democratic journey, and his lasting contributions to national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to unity and progress,” the minister noted. “This holiday gives Nigerians the chance to reflect on his leadership and the values he stood for.”

Tunji-Ojo urged citizens to honour Buhari’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and unity in line with his vision for the country.

He also conveyed the government’s condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for the peaceful repose of the late president’s soul.
