The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the government, congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance and sacrifice emphasised during Ramadan.

He also called on Nigerians across religious and ethnic divides to use the festive period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity and prosperity.

“The virtues of compassion and selflessness demonstrated during Ramadan should continue to guide daily interactions,” the minister said, while encouraging citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged.

The government reiterated its commitment to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, a month-long period of fasting, prayer and reflection observed by Muslims worldwide.
