The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) in all public and private secondary schools, starting from the 2026/27 academic session.

The directive, issued in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, is part of ongoing efforts to combat examination malpractice and restore credibility to Nigeria’s education system.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Education, has announced a nationwide prohibition on the admission and transfer of students into SS3 in all public and private secondary schools,” the statement read.

The ministry explained that the policy follows concerns over the rising incidence of malpractice, including the use of unapproved centres during external examinations.

Going forward, admissions and transfers will only be permitted into Senior Secondary School One (SS1) and Senior Secondary School Two (SS2).

“Admission or transfer into SS3 will no longer be allowed under any circumstances,” the ministry emphasised.

Officials said the measure aims to prevent last-minute movement of students for examination advantages, ensure proper academic monitoring, and promote continuity in teaching and learning.

School proprietors, principals, and administrators have been instructed to fully comply with the policy, with the ministry warning that violations will attract sanctions under existing education regulations.

The Federal Ministry of Education reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding academic standards, ensuring fairness, and restoring credibility to public examinations nationwide.
