Femi Otedola: Supporting Dangote Crucial for Nigeria’s Development, Economic Independence

Segun Atanda/

In a compelling endorsement of industrialist and Africa’s richest Individual, Aliko Dangote’s monumental contributions to Nigeria’s industrial landscape, billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, has highlighted the pivotal role the chairman of Dangote Group plays in the nation’s economic development.

Otedola, in a statement he shared on his X handle, referred to Dangote as a “visionary,” while praising his extraordinary achievements, which have placed Nigeria on the global industrial map.

“Dangote has built the world’s largest single train refinery in Lagos State, along with the second-largest sugar refinery and one of the largest fertilizer plants globally, both also located in Lagos. In Kogi State, he established the world’s largest cement factory. His fertilizer plant in Lagos is already exporting globally, showcasing Nigeria’s capability in the global market,” he wrote.

Otedola described Dangote as a “titan that God created specially for mankind.”

“As the largest private sector employer in Nigeria, Dangote’s companies are among the nation’s highest taxpayers, often surpassing the combined tax contributions of the top banks. Otedola emphasized that without Dangote, Nigeria would still rely on cement imports. Dangote’s impact extends beyond industrial facilities, as he has spearheaded critical infrastructure projects, including the Apapa Oshodi-Owonrosoki Express Road, Wharf Road, and the Obajana-Kabba Road,” he further noted

Otedola underscored the necessity of visionary leaders in emerging economies, drawing parallels to historic figures who built America’s industrial landscape, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, and Henry Ford.

“These pioneers left behind legacies that continue to drive their country’s prosperity. Similarly, modern tech giants like Microsoft and Tesla received substantial government support, facilitating their growth and innovation.

“Globally, governments have recognized the importance of supporting business titans. In India, figures like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani have received significant backing, contributing to the country’s economic growth. Emerging markets such as Vietnam, South Africa, Brazil, and China have provided incentives and support to local businesses, fostering rapid industrialization and global competitiveness.”

Otedola stressed the importance of supporting local champions like Dangote in Nigeria, noting that his contributions are a beacon of what is possible when vision meets opportunity.

He called for continued recognition and support of visionaries who drive the nation’s progress, underscoring that their success is crucial for Nigeria’s national development and economic independence.
