The main opposition candidate in the just concluded Ugandan Presidential Election, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, today, announced that he has engaged Nigerian human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, to challenge his continued house arrest by the Yoweri Museveni government.

In a tweet today, Wine disclosed that Falana has filed a complaint with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention on his behalf to challenge his detention in the aftermath of the election marred by allegations of widespread malpractices and voter suppression.

Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni was declared winner of the election.

His tweet reads, “Nigerian human rights lawyer Femi Falana has filed this complaint on my behalf to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Arrest. We are challenging my continued illegal confinement by the Ugandan police and the military!”

Bobi Wine also shared copies of the complaint along with the tweet.

Also, yesterday, Bobi Wine tweeted a photo of himself, wife and his wife’s 18-month-old niece, who was visiting the couple before his home was besieged by soldiers and police officers, spending their sixth day under house arrest.

The United States Ambassador to Uganda, Natalie Brown, was also prevented by security officials from visiting Bobi Wine in his house yesterday.
