The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has alerted the public to potential security challenges surrounding a planned peaceful protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) FCT Council, scheduled for Tuesday.

The Command stated today that it respects citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly but noted that intelligence reports suggest that banned groups and other non-state actors may attempt to infiltrate and hijack the demonstration, posing risks to public order and safety.

The police urged the organisers to consider rescheduling the protest to avoid any breakdown of law and order and to protect lives, property and the rights of other residents.

“We remain committed to safeguarding all lawful activities,” the statement added, emphasising the Command’s dedication to maintaining peace across the Federal Capital Territory.

Residents were encouraged to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure the FCT remains peaceful and secure.

The statement was issued on behalf of the FCT Police Command by Superintendent of Police Josephine Adeh, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer.
