A heavy flood has swept away the Director of Finance, Federal Capital Territory High Court, Mr. Tony Okecheme.
Two other vehicles and their passengers were reportedly trapped in the same flood this morning.
The Executive Secretary of Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, Waziri Adio, had alerted emergency agencies to the development in post on his Twitter handle, @Waziriadio, this morning.
He wrote: “Side road and depressed open area around Galadiwama Roundabout completely submerged by flood this morning. Two vehicles said to be trapped in the flood. @FRSCNigeria, @PoliceNG
“It is said that some people are trapped in the flood. Quick emergency response needed.”
Okecheme was reportedly on his way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in his official 2017 Toyota Camry when his car got stuck in the flood at the roundabout.
NewsmakersNG learnt that while Okecheme was swept away by the raging flood, his driver was rescued by some people around and taken to the Asokoro hospital.
Eyewitnesses said the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) officials, who arrived the scene while Okecheme and his driver were still trapped in the flood, could not rescue them until the water swept away the director.
Two young girls who claimed to be Okecheme’s children were seen weeping uncontrollably at the scene of the incident.
