A teacher was allegedly beaten to death by the family of her student in Anambra State on Wednesday.

According to Voice of the East, the teacher was attacked for beating the 14-year-old student, Okafor Chinaza, at Starlight Secondary School, in Ogidi.

Reports say the unidentified teacher had flogged the student for failing to clean the classroom, based on the roaster.

Eyewitnesses said Chinaza responded in an insulting manner when the teacher queried her and also refused to obey the order to kneel in front of the class.

Her behaviour reportedly infuriated the teacher, who resorted to flogging her angrily.

Chinaza, thereafter, fled the classroom and escaped by jumping over the school fence.

Later in the day, Chinaza returned with her mother and a man that claimed to be her uncle. The two reportedly forced their way past the school’s security post and went straight to the classroom, where they learned the teacher had gone for a meeting.

They, then, went to the office of the proprietress, identified as Odilinye Rita, to complain about the teacher. She, however, apologised for the teacher’s action and asked them to allow the school handle the matter administratively.

Eyewitnesses revealed that as the two were stepping out of the school premises, they accosted the teacher, who was returning from her meeting.

The mother immediately pounced on her, hitting her repeatedly with a stick until she collapsed.

The teacher was, subsequently, taken to one Iyi-Enu Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

NewsmakersNG learned that the student and her mum and uncle have been arrested by the police.

Police authorities in the state are, however, yet to confirm the incident.
