A man who was fooling a community in Ogun State, posing as a soldier, has pushed his luck a little too far.

NewsmakersNG learnt that 32-year-old Abdul-Azeez Haruna had been parading himself as a soldier, wearing military camouflage uniform, and terrorising residents who decided to confront him when he was suspected to have stolen a television set from a house in the neighbourhood.

He was later handed over to the police.

Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says in a statement today: “The Suspect was arrested at about 2:00pm of 26/06/2018 at Ifesowapo Community of Ijako area in Sango Ota, where he has been parading himself as a military personnel with full military camouflage uniform.

“He has been terrorizing the people of the area for quite some time now before luck ran against him on that fateful day when he was caught removing a television set from the house of a resident of that Community while in full army uniform. This aroused the suspicions of the Community members who accosted him, held him hostage and sent a distress call to the Police at Sango Ota Division. The DPO of the Station, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, led his men to the scene and promptly arrested the suspect.

“Upon his claim of being a soldier, the military men guarding electrical distribution installation in Ota were invited to identify him, it was on their arrival that the suspect confessed to being a fake soldier.

“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the suspect to be transfered to State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.”
