Fake Kidnap Drama Ends in Hotel: Married Woman Found With Lover After Family Raised Millions for ‘Ransom’

What began as a desperate race to save a kidnapped mother ended in shock, heartbreak, and public outrage after a married woman allegedly staged her own abduction and was later found in a Delta State hotel with her lover.

The woman, identified simply as Oluchi, had reportedly disappeared from the Ikpoba Hill area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, triggering panic among family members and friends who believed she had fallen into the hands of kidnappers.

Her children, including a daughter based in Canada, launched emotional appeals for help as the supposed abductors demanded a ransom of ₦50 million, later reducing it to ₦20 million.

However, what appeared to be another grim kidnapping case took a dramatic turn when police investigators uncovered evidence suggesting that the abduction had been orchestrated from the outset.

Acting on intelligence and digital tracking, detectives reportedly traced the phone number of a man linked to the case to a hotel in Ubiaroko, Delta State. There, they found Oluchi alive and well, sharing a room with her alleged lover.

A source familiar with the investigation disclosed that the woman’s husband was summoned after the discovery.

“The police traced the man’s number to a hotel in Ubiaroko. When they got there, they found both of them inside the hotel. The husband was later informed and was overjoyed to hear his wife had been found alive. It was only at the police station that he learnt the truth,” the source said.

According to the source, Oluchi reportedly pleaded with her husband not to reveal the circumstances of her disappearance to their children.

The revelation has left her family devastated, particularly her daughter, Anita, who had publicly campaigned for support and mobilised efforts to secure her mother’s release.

In an emotional online video, Anita expressed disbelief and anguish over the development.

“My mum has been released. My mum is involved in this kidnapping case. I only did what I did to save my mum,” she said.

“The family is in shock. This is not right. This has shattered my family. My dad has health issues, and this is so unfortunate.

“My reputation has been ruined. I never knew anything about this. I only wanted my mother back home. The law will take its course.”

She revealed that no ransom payment was eventually made and assured members of the public that all funds raised would be refunded.

“We involved the police from the beginning. We now know it was not a real kidnapping. They said my mum is involved. They are having a relationship. The man was traced. They had agreed to take whatever amount we had raised, which was about ₦20 million,” she added.

The scandal has also rattled the Harmony Ladies Club, a social group to which Anita belongs.

In a statement circulated on the club’s WhatsApp platform and obtained by journalists, the organisation distanced itself from the incident, describing the alleged deception as a profound betrayal.

“When news of her alleged abduction broke, the club acted swiftly in good faith,” the statement said.

“Out of sisterhood, love and a sense of community responsibility, we rallied immediately. Members provided emotional, logistical and financial support during what we believed was a life-threatening crisis.

“It is with a profound sense of betrayal that we have now discovered, through investigations, that the entire kidnapping incident was staged by Mrs. Oluchi herself.”

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the case and that investigations were ongoing.

The bizarre episode has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing sympathy for the woman’s family while calling for those involved in the alleged fraud to face the full weight of the law.
