Contrary to reports making the rounds on social media, Nigeria’s Senate President, Ahmad Lawan has not dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In an edited video making the rounds, Lawan was purportedly making an announcement that he was leaving the APC for PDP.
However, the video shared on social media was cut from an announcement made by Lawan on the defection by Senator Yahaya Abdullahi, the Senate Majority Leader, three days ago.
In the letter read during plenary, the Senate President said, “It is with deep sense of responsibility that I write to inform your Excellency and indeed my entire colleagues in the Senate of my decision to defect from my political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.” Lawan was apparently not referring to himself.
