The Head of the Police Complaints Response Unit, ACP Abayomi Shogunle, has said that it would be safer for Nigerians to speak to policemen in Pidgin during encounters on the road.
Shogunle had tweeted a clip of the Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, DCP Tunji Disu, who was addressing his men on the rising cases of police brutality and extrajudicial killings in the country.
In the video, Disu could be heard speaking in a mix of standard English language and pidgin.
Shogunle, who expressed support for the initiative of the RRS boss via his official Twitter handle @YomiShogunle, however, noted: “For now, don’t go and be speaking Queen’s English with them on the road. For proper understanding, talk to them in Pidgin, another way to avoid kasala (trouble).”
