Explosion Reported at Finance Ministry Headquarters in Abuja

An explosion has been reported at the headquarters of the federal ministry of finance in Abuja.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the explosion caused momentary panic in the Central Area of the Federal Capital Territory, where the building is located.

The spokesperson of the Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul, confirmed the incident.

The ministry also confirmed the incident in a tweet via its verified handle.

An official of the ministry who addressed journalists said the minor explosion occurred in the compartment housing the inverter used to backup power supply to the building.

According to him, one of the batteries powering the inverter had exploded and ignited a minor fire that affected about 16 other batteries.

He claimed that the damage caused by the explosion was limited to the room housing the inverter and part of the basement of the building.

He noted that the ministry’s internal fire fighting mechanism had been successfully activated to put the fire under control before the arrival of firefighters.
