A former member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cairo Ojougboh, has died while watching the AFCON match between the Super Eagles and Bafana Bafana.
Ojougboh represented the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State in the Lower Chamber.
The former Director at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) reportedly died while watching the Super Eagles of Nigeria AFCON semi-final match against Bafana Bafana of South Africa in Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire, last night.
The outspoken politician reportedly slumped and died when Nigeria’s second goal was canceled by the referee and a penalty kick was awarded to South Africa.
Nigeria eventually won the match on penalties (4-2) after playing 1 – 1 at the end of 120 minutes. The Super Eagles will meet Cotê d’Ivoire on Sunday.
A source close to the Ojougboh family confirmed the death.
“As soon as a penalty kick was awarded against Nigeria during the AFCON match, he slumped. We tried to revive him to no avail. It is an unfortunate situation,” the source said.
