A member of the 1985 Under 17 World Cup winning Golden Eaglets team, Chukwuma Nwaoha, is critically ill.
Nwaoha, who was decorated with the national honour of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) and also had a street named after him in Owerri, the Imo State capital, is reportedly battling a liver-related ailment.
He is currently on admission at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia and requires urgent surgery.
His plight was shared on Facebook by Chris Kehinde Nwandu.
Nwandu said he had also spoken to one of his relations, who lamented that the family lacks the fund required to manage his sickness.
He is a native of Mbubo village, in Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State.
His teammates included Nduka Ugbade, Jonathan Akpoborire, Fatai Atere, among others.
