The police in Ogun State have arrested an ex-convict who allegedly stole a car days after he left prison.

According to the police, Ayomide Ifabode was arrested for stealing a Nissan Almera saloon car marked AAB 87 TF.

Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told NewsmakersNG in a statement that the suspect was arrested on September 17, at Ototo Village, along Kobape Road, in Abeokuta, the state capital, where he took the vehicle to after removing it from where the owner parked it at Ijeun-Titun area of the metropolis.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the owner of the vehicle, one Okeowo Ahmed has earlier reported at Ibara division that his vehicle was removed from park by an unknown person, after which the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ibara, SP Dada Oluwasegun detailed his detectives to embark on discreet investigation in order to recover the stolen vehicle and brought the culprit to justice.

“Their efforts yielded a positive result when the operatives got information that the vehicle has been sighted at Ototo community consequent upon which they stormed the place where the suspect was promptly arrested and the car recovered.

“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he removed the car from where it was parked using a master key. He also confessed of just coming out of prison yard where he was sentenced to after being convicted of a similar crime,” Oyeyemi stated.

The police have since recovered the stolen car and the suspect’s master key.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to FSARS for further investigation and prosecution.
