Former Governor of Adamawa State, Bala James Ngilari, has bagged a 5-year jail term for failing to adhere to the procurement laws of the state.
He was convicted and jailed at a High Court in Yola, Adamawa State.
Justice Nathan Musa, in a 75-minute long ruling, found the former governor guilty on four charges, and discharged him on one, which bordered on conspiracy.
The second and third defendants, a former Secretary to the State Government, and the Commissioner of Finance, were discharged and acquitted.
The Judge said that the law stipulated that the convict shall not be given an option of fine.
He sentenced the former governor to five years in prison, and said the convict was free to serve his term in any prison of his choice.
Ngilari was charged on September 21, 2016.
