Two policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) were knocked down by a commercial bus driver while on surveillance duty on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos yesterday night.
NewsmakersNG learnt that the officers had flagged down a bus driving against traffic at about 11pm but the driver, who first pretended to be stopping, suddenly accelerated and knocked down the policemen.
The two officers, who suffered head injuries and multiple fractures, were reportedly rushed to the hospital by motorists who witnessed the incident.
The errant driver, for fear of being chased down by other motorists, reportedly abandoned the bus and fled.
The RRS commander, Tunji Disu, a deputy commissioner of police, tweeted this morning that the injured policemen are in stable condition in the hospital.
His tweet read: “Officer with head injuries conscious, scan done confirmed ok. Other officer with multiple fracture also stable. Million thanks to the good Nigerians who rushed them and stayed with us at the hospital. Million thanks for your prayers and good wishes. We cannot thank you enough.”
