A crowdfunding account shared this morning by Twitter influencer, Nonso Egemba, popularly known as Doctor Aproko, to raise N500,000 to provide prosthetic leg for Ms Jane Obiene, who joined yesterday’s #EndSARS protest in Abuja with crutches, has raised over N3.2 million under four hours.
Ms Obiene defied her disability to join other protesters walking several kilometres to demand an end to police brutality in Nigeria.
The earlier tweet by Aproko Doctor read, “This is Jane, She’s been unemployed since 2013 partly because of her disability, she came out in the #EndSARS protests, and we need to help.
“Please click the link below to donate to this, if you can’t donate, please RT, someone might see it on your TL
https://donate-ng.com/campaign/a-pro.”
He however wrote in a subsequent tweet, “I created the donate link for Jane with a 30 day period in mind for 500,000. I thought Nigerians were stretched thin from giving for the #EndSARS protests.
“Said a little prayer then posted the link
“In less than 4 hours, we raised 3.2 Million naira and counting. A new Nigeria!”
