Elon Musk has become the first person in history to be worth $500 billion, according to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires Tracker.

The Tesla and SpaceX boss is now $150 billion ahead of Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, making him the richest person on the planet and halfway to the world’s first trillion-dollar fortune.

Musk’s net worth surged after Tesla shares climbed nearly 4% on Wednesday, adding an estimated $9.3 billion.

Tesla’s stock has almost doubled this year, boosted by Musk’s pledge to refocus on the company. His 12% stake alone is now worth about $191 billion.

Beyond Tesla, Musk’s fortune is powered by SpaceX, valued at $400 billion, where he owns 42% worth $168 billion, and by xAI Holdings, his artificial intelligence venture merged with social media platform X, valued at $113 billion. His 53% stake there is worth about $60 billion.

The half-trillion-dollar milestone continues Musk’s extraordinary rise.

Worth just $24.6 billion in early 2020, he has since become the fastest climber in billionaire history, crossing $100 billion in 2020, $200 billion in 2021, and $400 billion by late 2024.

At his current pace, analysts suggest Musk could hit the trillion mark before 2033.

Musk insists his massive pay packages are about influence, not money. “It’s not about ‘compensation’, but about me having enough influence over Tesla to ensure safety if we build millions of robots,” he wrote in September.
