Fresh violence has erupted in the ancient city of Ibadan following yesterday’s governorship and state assembly elections.
There are claims that the wife of a former factional Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Alhaji Lamidi Mukaila, aka Auxiliary, was shot in the renewed violence, but the police denied it.
An eyewitness report received by NewsmakersNG, however, reads: “Auxiliary’s (Oyo State NURTW Boss) wife has just been murdered in a cold blood. Everywhere is in chaos. Iwo road, Oremeji, Orita Aperin and surrounding areas are no go areas for now.”
NewsmakersNG could not ascertain the victim’s condition.
The violence which started yesterday, immediately voting ended, resulted in the death of a member of the House of Representatives representing Lagelu/Akinyele Federal Constituency of the state, Temitope Olatoye, aka Sugar.
There are also reports of ongoing clashes and heavy gunfire around Monaton, Alakia and Gate areas of the metropolis.
Residents told NewsmakersNG that soldiers have been drafted to the area and are currently battling to restore peace.
