An eight-year-old girl, identified as Oluwatosin Abosede, was reportedly raped by some yet to be identified persons in Irele, Ondo State yesterday night.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the girl was dragged into a deserted building by his attackers where she was raped successively.

The victim, who was left bleeding profusely from the injuries she suffered, was reportedly abandoned at the scene by her attackers.

She was later taken to the Irele General Hospital by a police team that was alerted to the incident.

Police authorities in the state however confirmed today that some suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, but said that the prime suspect was still at large.

NewsmakersNG also learnt that the state government has volunteered to pay the medical bills of the victim.

Social media activist, Oluyemi Fasipe, disclosed the update by the police and state government’s intervention in a series of tweets on his handle, @YemieFASH.

He wrote: “I just spoke with the @PoliceNG PRO, Ondo State command, Mr Femi Joseph. He said they have made some arrests but the major suspect is still at large. He assured that the @PoliceNG will arrest all those involved in the criminal act.”

About an hour later, he also tweeted: “I have just been informed by one of the aides of the governor, @Buddyrichy141 that the state government have also intervened and taken full responsibility for the treatment of the little girl that was raped. We now await the result of @PoliceNG investigation.”
