The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign a deputy director of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in Akwa Ibom State, Gogo Anderson Waribo, for bribery.
Waribo was also an Electoral Officer in Rivers State during the 2015 general elections.
Waribo is alleged to have collected N16 million bribe from the N23 billion slush fund linked to former petroleum minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, to influence the outcome of the election.
He was arrested by the EFCC following reports that some INEC officials conspired with some staff of a commercial bank (name withheld) to defraud the Federal Government of huge sums of money.
Waribo denied the allegations, but investigations later uncovered his name among those that allegedly took bribe to undermine the electoral process.
It was further discovered that he received N16 million through his First Bank account on March 27, 2015, out of which he gave one Peter Popnen, an ex-INEC official, N5 million
EFCC’s head of media and publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement, on Tuesday, the suspect would be arraigned soon.
